📷 Inside-Out Tracking Check

Diagnoses camera-based (SLAM) tracking on standalone headsets — Meta Quest 2/3, Pico, HTC Vive Focus 3 / Focus Vision, and similar. Runs entirely in the headset's browser using WebXR pose data: no PC, no cables, no install.

Open this page in the headset's own browser and tap Enter VR. This is the counterpart to the Lighthouse IR Sensor Check — that one is for SteamVR base-station devices; this one is for inside-out headsets.

Test phases (guided in VR — pinch / trigger advances)

Stillness: rest the headset on a table facing the room for 15 seconds. Measures positional jitter — a healthy SLAM stack holds sub-millimeter stability. Elevated jitter suggests dirty/damaged cameras or IMU issues.

Free look: wear it and look around normally for 30 seconds. Counts tracking losses and position-emulation fallbacks (the headset silently switching to rotation-only tracking is a key failure signature).

Camera cover: cover each tracking camera one at a time for ~3 seconds and watch the live OK / LOST indicator. A healthy multi-camera headset survives one covered camera; if covering one specific camera consistently kills tracking, the other cameras are weak or dirty.

Controllers (if present): rest both controllers on a surface in view for 15 seconds. Measures per-controller jitter and dropouts — indirectly tests the controller IR LED rings that the headset cameras track.

Thresholds are heuristic guidance for triage, not manufacturer specs: head jitter <1 mm RMS excellent · <3 mm good · <6 mm fair · above that poor. Controller jitter <2 mm excellent · <5 mm good. Any tracking loss during normal free-look warrants cleaning the cameras and re-testing in good, even lighting (SLAM needs texture — a blank wall or dim room degrades any headset).
